Lauren Conrad was on tap this past Thursday evening celebrating Frankie Delgado’s birthday with a whole bunch of Frankie’s dear-ole friends, according to LovelyLauren.

Lauren was seen taking pictures of Frankie at his finest as well as posing with Frankie’s many life-long friends not having any problem whatsoever getting comfortable with them.

Also, Lauren and another one of Frankie’s friends posed for a head-to-head photo showing the two wearing matching sunglasses saying ‘I love Frankie’.

Aside from partying, Lauren puts her career ahead of everything else including love which has made Lauren a driving force with her business ventures.

Lauren is so determined with her work that she uses her mornings to write novels before other things start picking up throughout her busy day.

And at the end of the day, Lauren Conrad makes the best of her free time by spending it with family, friends, and significant others celebrating special occasions.

Over this weekend was the Calgary Comic Expo with Tara Strong as one of the guests of honor.  Earlier last night a con goer published two videos up on YouTube of Tara’s panel, which included fellow voice actress Monica Rial who you may know from Fullmetal Alchemist (Lyra/Danta) and other many various voicing roles.

I have not gone over the videos so I cannot say how much is pony related from Tara, I would imagine a fair chunk of it.  If you’re not up to watching the videos (one is 27+ minutes), check back later and hopefully we’ll have some cliff notes for ya (after I have some coffee).

Update: Apparently John de Lancie appeared as a special guest at the Expo, betcha those thousand people who got turned away at the door are glad.  Thanks to YouTube Puzzledmint for grabbing video of him, and the voice actor panel.  Puzzledmint’s video is embedded after the page break.

Instead of dieting, try these 3 things

Posted by admin | Posted in dieting | Posted on 05-06-2012-05-2008

I’ve written about one of the most common mistakes people make when they’re trying to lose fat, by doing slow and long-distance cardio.  I discussed the most effective type of cardio  that burns more fat.  another common mistake I see people make involves  nutrition.

That biggest mistake is dieting! That’s right—dieting is a big mistake.

People have tried one, two, or more diets in their attempt to lose weight.  If diets “work,” why do people have to try more than one?

Diets don’t work because psychologically, you start off with a negative action.  when you think  dieting, you start thinking about the food you have to “give up,” eating what you really don’t like, etc.  it doesn’t sound motivating at all.

Diets can be too restrictive or difficult to follow. Depending on the diet, some foods are forbidden, and the ones that are not might be foods you don’t like.

Diets dictate the exact amount of food you should eat, how many calories, what time you should eat, the percentage of calories coming from carbs, protein and fat, etc.

Diets  are generally not practical for everyday life.  Imagine having to weigh, measure and calculate everything you put in your mouth.   If you are a professional athlete who needs your body to be at optimal levels, then yes, you should be that detailed. However, being fastidious is not practical if you don’t rely on your body to earn a living.

The number one thing that will help you in your nutrition goals is to focus on adopting one healthy eating habit at a time.  far too often, people try to change too many habits at one time, which is a recipe for failure because behavioral changes take time to occur.  Adopt one habit and be consistent in observing it.  once you become consistent, add another to work on, and so on.

Here are three simple healthy eating habits to  get you on the right track for maximum fat loss.

1. take a multivitamin and a fish oil supplement.

2. Drink at least a liter of water a day, preferably two  liters.

3. Eat protein in all your meals.

Nutritional gaps

A multivitamin and fish oil supplement will help make up for the nutritional gaps in your diet. Don’t worry about which multivitamin to take; just work on taking it consistently everyday for now.

For fish oils, I prefer the liquid type, but if you don’t like the fishy taste, pills are fine.  Follow the recommendations on the label. the goal is to get you taking them consistently, daily.

Drink more water; it is likely you are not drinking enough.  A  saying goes—“If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated.”  Don’t wait to get thirsty to drink water.

Drink water throughout the day. have a bottle of water on hand so it is readily available. People often mistake thirst for hunger. They eat even if they’re not really hungry, and this leads to excess calories.

Protein is an essential nutrient. Its function is not only to build muscles. Weight loss, increasing fat mobilization, and a reduction in cardiovascular risk are among the health benefits of increased protein intake.

The goal is to get protein from whole foods (chicken, fish, meat, etc.). If that is not possible, a protein supplement is a good option.

There are many different types of protein shakes, so don’t get stuck trying to figure out which one to get.  the goal is to have protein from whole foods with every meal, and if you can’t, a protein supplement will do.

Where to go from here?

Healthy nutrition habits will get you started on the right track, because they are simple and easy to observe.  the best start is to pick one of the habits and observe it consistently.

If you are able to do it everyday for one to two weeks, add the next habit.   In six weeks, you will have established a good nutrition foundation to achieve your health and fitness goals.

I Love Dennis Bergkamp » BERGKAMP PRAISES VAN PERSIE

Former Arsenal midfielder Dennis Bergkamp has praised captain and striker Robin van Persie by saying that he has been simply sensational for Arsenal over the last few seasons. Robin van Persie has almost single-handedly kept Arsenal in the race for the top four positions this season. He scored a quite remarkable 34 goals in the last calendar year alone, while he has been equally brilliant in 2012 as well. Robin van Persie was extremely close to breaking the record of the most number of goals scored in a calendar year set by Alan Shearer more than a decade ago. however, he managed to beat only the record set by Thierry Henry.

It has drawn the praise of former Arsenal midfielder Dennis Bergkamp, who is regarded as one of the best players to have played for the club ever. Dennis Bergkamp has praised the fact that Robin van Persie has been able to achieve the feat of scoring many goals in the last 14 months or so even though he has been playing as the lone striker. it is a position that Dennis Bergkamp believes is the hardest for any striker. Robin van Persie has scored 33 goals this season alone, thus putting him in the league of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He has been playing in a role which is very difficult. I think it’s easier for a guy like Robin or me to play behind the striker, and feed the main striker and sometimes get the space to do your own thing. but basically he is the one up front who has to make a difference, which puts a lot of pressure on him, but it seems like he can deal with it,” Bergkamp said. Van Persie requires seven goals in order to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 30 league goals in a single season.

LA Kings enter finals seeking their coronation

Hockey royalty in name only, the Los Angeles Kings have a chance to finally be crowned National Hockey League (NHL) champions as a seed planted 45 years ago by an ambitious league is finally bearing fruit.

Los Angeles is not yet planning a victory parade through its gridlocked streets but hockey fever has gripped the city with the Kings in the Stanley Cup final, starting Thursday (NZ time) against the New Jersey Devils, for the first time since 1993.

The Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks have all proven you can ice a Stanley Cup winner in steamy southern US markets better suited for pools than pucks.

But it was the Kings that established the NHL’s southern initiative in 1967 with Canadian business tycoon Jack Kent Cooke buying in as part of the league’s grand expansion plan of adding six new teams.

The NHL endured a bumpy ride trying to establish the game in non-traditional markets and that includes Los Angeles, where the team went from Kings to paupers surviving bankruptcy, fan apathy and flamboyant owner Bruce McNall who was responsible for the franchise’s biggest boom and bust.

Before his empire spectacularly collapsed and landed him in prison on fraud charges, McNall put hockey on the map in the southern United States, pulling off what is widely regarded as the most important NHL trade of all-time.

Needing a star to make a splash in city packed with the rich and famous, a brazen McNall went after hockey’s biggest name and acquired Wayne Gretzky from the Edmonton Oilers in 1988.

The deal remains a watershed moment in the NHL’s attempt to grow the game as Gretzky’s arrival in Los Angeles offered the league instant cache where it had little, the Kings becoming the hottest ticket in town.

“We were trying to get the interest in hockey nationwide, not just in Canada and on the East Coast,” McNall told QMI Agency. “Wayne brought a lot of attention here and in Phoenix (after his playing career).

“There wouldn’t be a team there without him. It showed hockey could work in those places.”

STEADY REBUIL

Gretzky’s presence raised hockey’s profile but after winning four championships in Edmonton not even the great One or Hall of Famers like Marcel Dionne and Luc Robitaille could bring a Stanley Cup to Los Angeles.

In the 19 years since Gretzky guided the Kings to the 1993 final, Los Angeles has missed the playoffs 11 times, leaving the California hockey spotlight to the Ducks, who won a Cup in 2007.

Mired in mediocrity, the Kings brought in Dean Lombardi as general manager in 2006 and pushed ahead with a slow and steady rebuild through smart draft picks and crafty trades.

Defenseman Drew Doughty (second overall in 2008), Slovenian sensation Anze Kopitar (11th overall in 2005) and captain Dustin Brown (13th overall 2003) form the Kings core but it is a third round pick in 2005 that may have been the most significant.

With the 72nd overall pick, Los Angeles took Jonathan Quick, who has blossomed into one of the NHL’s best goalies, a Vezina Trophy finalist this season as top netminder and early candidate for Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable playoff performer.

After years of patient progress, it appeared the Kings would take a step back this season as they faltered out of the game.

A mid-season coaching change that had Darryl Sutter replace Terry Murray and some trade deadline wheeling and dealing that saw the Kings acquire high-scoring forward Jeff Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets failed to produce instant success but as the post-season approached the pieces began to meld together.

After scraping into the playoffs, the eighth-seeded Kings have reigned supreme, going 12-2 in knocking off the top seeded Vancouver Canucks, number two St. Louis Blues and number three Phoenix Coyotes while winning an NHL record 10 straight playoff road games.

Good Wednesday morning! Sending Playbook for the first time from in-flight wi-fi, aboard an American Airlines 737 as we red-eye into Dulles from LAX:

TOP TALKER – “Pentagon, CIA, White House opened up to Hollywood on bin Laden raid,” by Josh Gerstein: “[T]op officials … granted Hollywood filmmakers unusual access to those involved in planning the raid and some of the methods they used to do it, newly released government records show. at a briefing in July 2011, Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence Mike Vickers told filmmakers Michael Boal and Katherine Bigelow that the leaders of the the Special Operations Command couldn't speak to them for appearances' sake. However, Vickers said that the Pentagon would make available a Navy SEAL who was involved in planning the raid from its earliest stages. … [A] transcript of the meeting [was] released Friday to Judicial Watch. The conservative watchdog group filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit demanding the documents … Bigelow [is] best known for ‘The Hurt Locker’ …

“The Pentagon is now withholding … the same name DoD gave the filmmakers. … A Pentagon spokesman stressed Tuesday night that the name given to the filmmakers was not that of someone directly involved in carrying out the bin Laden raid. ‘The identity of a planner, not a member of SEAL Team 6, was provided by USSOCOM as a possible point of contact for additional information if the DoD determined that additional support was merited,’ Lt. Col. James Gregory said. ‘no additional official DoD support was granted, nor to our knowledge was it pursued by the film makers.’” http://politi.co/MGg30O

–PLAYBOOK FACTS OF LIFE: What would the reaction have been if the Bush administration had done the same?

BREAKING: "Dan Restrepo, Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere at the National Security Council, will leave the White House next month. Restrepo has been President Obama’s point man on policy in the Americas since early 2007, and made history in April 2009 as the first person to speak Spanish from the White House podium. He plans to reacquaint himself with his family before heading to the private sector. 'no one has done more in support of the President's agenda to build trust and deepen our relations with the Western Hemisphere than Dan,' said Deputy National Security Advisor Denis McDonough. 'While we'll miss his quick wit, boundless energy, and intellect, I'm glad he'll have more time to spend with his wife Kate and their beautiful daughters in the days ahead.'"

–Ricardo Zuniga, currently at the U.S. Embassy in Brazil, is slated to replace Restrepo.

MOOD MUSIC – USA Today lead story, “Auto plants roar into overdrive: Demand drives overtime, hiring,” by Chris Woodyard: “Automakers are pushing factories … to the limit to try to meet burgeoning demand for new vehicles. Some plants are adding third work shifts. Others are piling on worker overtime and six-day weeks. … Ford … and Chrysler … are … reducing the annual two-week July shutdown at several plants this summer to add thousands of vehicles to their output. … The automakers’ problem now is … hot demand. Sales for 2012 are estimated at 14.3 million vehicles, … up from 12.8 million last year.” http://usat.ly/Kny7KS

CHASER – “‘Fiscal cliff" could cause U.S. recession — CBO,” by Reuters’ Lucia Mutikani and Kim Dixon: “A stalemate over how to tackle a series of fiscal deadlines at year's end would likely push the United States economy into recession in the first half of next year, the Congressional Budget Office warned on Tuesday. A wave of U.S. tax hikes and automatic spending cuts … are set to take effect in January … CBO … said the U.S. economy would contract at an annual rate of 1.3 percent for the first half of 2013 if lawmakers take no action to prevent the looming tax hikes and spending cuts. … CBO said growth would snap back in the second half of the year to 2.3 percent … The United States has run budget deficits topping $1 trillion for three straight years, and it is on course to do so for a fourth.”

THE NARRATIVE – “GOP discovers that Mitt could win,” by Jonathan Martin: “Margin-of-error polling, fundraising parity last month, conservative consolidation around Romney and a still-sluggish economy has senior GOP officials increasingly bullish about a nominee many winced over during a difficult primary process. Interviews with about two dozen Republican elected officials, aides, strategists and lobbyists reveal a newfound optimism that with a competent, on-message campaign, Romney will be at least competitive with a weakened incumbent. That’s a dramatic shift from the fatalistic view many party stalwarts shared mere weeks ago. ‘Romney is a lot better off than I expected him to be this quickly,’ said former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour … [T]he newborn optimism over Romney owes to more than just contempt for the alternative. Republican officials have been genuinely impressed with the former Massachusetts governor and his campaign of late.” http://bit.ly/Lq4zZK

THE BIG PICTURE – “Obama Prospects Improve as Swing State Economies Improve,” by Bloomberg’s Mike Dorning: “from extra shifts at auto and steel plants in Ohio to office buildings rising in Northern Virginia, the geography of the U.S. economic rebound is providing an edge to President Obama’s re-election. The unemployment rates in a majority of the 2012 battleground states are lower than the national average as those economies improve. Coupled with the growth of adult minority populations in those states, the trends create a higher bar for … five of the [nine] Bush-turned-Obama states had lower unemployment rates in April than the 8.1 percent national average, and in three of the states joblessness had dropped below 7 percent. …

“in Ohio, the state’s economy followed the roller coaster of the auto industry to a deeper recession than elsewhere and a stronger recovery. Unemployment in the state dropped to 7.4 percent in April, also aided by a rebound in steel, growth in other manufacturing industries and a surge in oil and natural gas development through the use of ‘fracking’ technology. … The portion of eligible voters in Ohio who are African- American also is slightly higher than the last presidential election, up 1 percentage point in 2011 from three years earlier, according to an analysis of census data by William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution …

“Virginia, a state that went Democratic for the first time since 1964 in backing Obama, has been sustained throughout the recession by federal government contracts, particularly military procurement. Unemployment never rose above 7.3 percent and had dropped to 5.6 percent in April. … The percentage of racial minorities, who voted heavily for Obama in 2008, in Virginia had risen by 3 percentage points in 2011. …

“[J]oblessness has been declining more rapidly in Florida than elsewhere, with the 8.7 percent April unemployment rate down from a peak of 11.4 percent in February 2010. The state’s tourism industry has benefited from pent-up demand for more vacation travel as the economy has recovered. … Population shifts in Florida since 2008 benefit Obama, with blacks and Hispanics each accounting for an additional 1 percent of the state’s eligible voters by 2011, according to Frey’s analysis.” http://bloom.bg/LmMRtq

BREAKING – TWO NEW OBAMA ADS OUT TODAY, part of the previously announced $25 million, four-week flight in nine states (CO, FL, NC, IA, NH, NV, OH, PA, VA). The campaign’s descriptions:

–“‘Personal’ highlights the President’s commitment to preserving Medicare … as a president who was raised by his grandparents, he understands the importance of Medicare.” Watch the ad. http://bit.ly/JTnnod

–“‘Sacred Trust’ highlights the President’s strong commitment to honoring our veterans. Watch the ad. http://bit.ly/Lf59tU

–Both feature the campaign’s “Forward” slogan.

STEVEN RATTNER op-ed in his alma mater, the N.Y. Times, “Tall Tales about Private Equity”: “as a former Obama administration official, I was uncomfortable about being used in a Romney ad in support of his position. However, I was also concerned that the Obama ads … might be seen to portray … private equity … in an ugly light because a few of the companies the firm invested in went bankrupt while Bain Capital still made money. on Monday, mr. Obama struck the right balance, emphasizing that he wasn’t attacking private equity but was questioning Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital credentials to be the job creator in chief. That’s fair, particularly because mr. Romney himself has been foolishly reweaving history to claim, as recently as last week, that he helped create 100,000 jobs during his time at Bain.” http://nyti.ms/KxsYvL

TOP STORY — “Facebook Stock Collapse Contributes To Mistrust Of Wall Street,” by HuffPost’s Mark Gongloff: “[T]he Facebook IPO had examples of pretty much everything that is wrong with the stock market today. His main adviser at lead underwriter Morgan Stanley assured him there was plenty of demand, they said. … that decision by the 41-year-old Facebook executive may have doomed any real chance the social-networking company had that its stock would jump on its first day of trading—a hallmark of successful IPOs.”

THE JUICE – WEST WING RAISES ROLE IN DRONE TARGETING — AP Intelligence Writer Kimberly Dozer: “White House counterterror chief John Brennan has seized the lead in guiding the debate on which terror leaders will be targeted for drone attacks or raids, establishing a new procedure to vet both military and CIA targets. The move concentrates power over the use of lethal U.S. force outside war zones at the White House. The process, which is about a month old, means Brennan's staff consults the Pentagon, the State Department and other agencies as to who should go on the list, making a previous military-run review process in place since 2009 less relevant, according to two current and three former U.S. officials aware of the evolution in how the government targets terrorists. …
