How to plan the perfect baby shower

Keepsake gifts for baby

Keepsake gifts are a popular trend for baby showers, especially if the parents skip the baby registry route.

Book for Baby: Ask the guests to bring a book for the new baby with a personal message written inside.

Parenting quotes: Compile advice and quotes from party attendees to help comfort, support and make the new parents laugh. Provide the guests with a journal at the shower, but inform them about the idea ahead of time so they have some time to think about what they want to write.

The finishing touches

Always think about how you can help the mom-to-be. Create less work and more time for her to relax, enjoy and relish in the love and support from her friends and family.

Arrange a table complete with envelopes near the exit of the shower. have guests write their name and address on the envelopes so the mom-to-be can write her thank you cards and send them off. If you really want to be helpful, place stamps on the envelopes, too!

In addition to helping the mom-to-be get the gifts to her home, offer to stay after the shower to help the parents assemble any baby gifts and dispose of trash or recycle boxes.

Molly Sims Celebrates Her Baby Shower

Her face has totally changed! Pregnancy is so funny. Sometimes it makes you look like a different person. I only had a big belly…but some people get puffy throughout. It’s interesting, no telling how it will affect you.

She looks so happy- I’m happy for her.

I wish I had thought of the letter idea for my baby shower. what a grea idea! even if it is only 1 sentence in the letter it would be very cool to be able to relive the joy of that day for years to come, and to be able to share everyone’s love for your unborn child with them as they grow.

She looks so pretty here – like back when she used to be on Las Vegas. she always seems to wear her hair in those tight severe ponytails now which don’t compliment her at all.

“Saying she “didn’t want to torture people with shower games” at the celebration, Sims, 38, instead planned other activities, including asking guests to write letters to her son at designated ages, which will be given to him annually.” So Molly threw and planned her own shower?

I hope not, because I think that’s bad etiquette. I’m all for baby showers, but I think it’s tacky to throw one for yourself!

Anonymous, her friends threw the shower that was thrown at her friend/event planners homer. It’s common for the mother/bride to be involved on planning the shower, if they’d like, which clearly she did. I have been a part of so many where the guest of honor says NO games! I personally was surprised and like it that way, but not everyone is that way.

You don’t want to torture guests w/ games yet you want them to write a letter? what happened to the old fashioned showers that us non-rich ppl have – it’s a SURPRISE, guests come, you eat, have cake, open gifts…none of this bring a gift for the mom’s necklace, write a letter, make some perfume. Good lord.

Us Non-Rich people go for the non traditional as well. It is quite common for the mother-to-be now a days to help out with the planning of her shower. Plus who said that Molly’s guests didn’t eat, have cake, and open gifts? Good Grief. I applaud those who think outside the box and offer up something new for these types of events. We had people design onesies for my sister’s baby at her shower. Everyone LOVED IT! New idea keeps things fresh and fun for everyone.

carla- Exactly! Not all baby showers are the same, and not all of us “normal” people have surprise showers. In fact, I don’t think I’ve been to a single baby shower (some of which have even be held AFTER the baby was born) that was a surprise for the mom-to-be (and the same goes for bridal showers). That’s not to say that I don’t like the idea of a surprise shower. I do, very much so. but it’s by no means a requirement for a “normal” shower either, nor is sticking to “traditional” things like games.

I think she is glowing! her personal site has some amazing pics of her pregnant, too.

As for surprise showers, I haven’t been to one either, but not sure how much you want to jump out and “surprise” a pregnant women either.

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Katie Tosland, of Avon Lake, had a baby shower of a different kind.

“I had a baby in the bathroom,” Tosland said, laughing.

Monday evening, she and the baby’s father, Josh Zimmerman, were staying the night at his parents’ Strongsville home before she underwent induced labor at the hospital Tuesday.

“I was thinking we could make it until the next day, maybe,” she said.

Baby “Charlotte,” or “Charlie,” as she’s called, had other plans.

“I get in the shower, and I’m like, ‘We’re going to the hospital tonight,’ ” Tosland said.

Tosland realized the contractions were coming a little too close together.

She got out of the shower, and realized the baby was coming, right then.

Zimmerman’s mother ran to help Tosland, called 911, and a dispatcher started talking them through it.

“They told her to have me lay down on the floor. She got me a couple of pillows, and I could just feel her coming. I needed to push, and it was just the most pain I’ve been in, in my entire life,” Tosland said.

Strongsville firemedics arrived and took one look at Tosland in the bathroom.

“we knew we were doing an emergency childbirth on-scene,” said Strongsville firemedic John Douglas, who delivered the baby.

“we had two crews on-scene, both crews worked together for the delivery. I just happened to be the one down there actually catching and doing the delivery,” Douglas said.

Thursday afternoon, Tosland, Zimmerman and their family got to thank the firemedics in person.

“thank you. I’m going to give you a hug. I’m gonna cry,” Tosland said as she held baby Charlie and gave Douglas a hug in the lobby of the Strongsville Fire Department.

“no problem,” Douglas said.

The delivery took just six minutes.

Charlie is happy and healthy, and now it’s her turn to be showered with love.

Charlie has two brothers and two sisters.

Kourtney Kardashian

Kris Jenner threw a baby shower for her daughter Kourtney Kardashian on Saturday (12.05.12).

The showbiz matriarch was assisted by party planner Sharon Sacks in organising the bash for her 33-year-old daughter – who is expecting her second child, a girl, with partner Scott Disick – at her Californian home, with around 90 guests.

A source said: ‘Kourtney’s shower was so nice!. Her mom and sisters were there, of course.

‘They talked, laughed, and played games. there was a bar and lots of different types of foods and desserts, including sushi and little sandwiches. She seemed happy and excited earlier in the day before the shower.

‘There were about 90 people at 10 tables.’

Because Kourtney – who already has a two-year-old son, Mason, with Scott – is expecting a daughter, the party had a pink theme.

The insider added to Life & Style magazine: ‘Flowers were blush-pink peonies, pink Dutch hydrangeas and garden sweet peas in pink-and-fuchsia containers. The theme was all pink and whites. Petals LA did the floral arrangements.

‘Lehr & Black did Kourtney’s shower invitations. They were beautiful.’

The guests bombarded Kourtney with gifts for her impending new arrival, with the reality TV star having registered with Bel Bambini and requesting items including a $349 video monitor set, car seat, embroidered bibs and teething toys.

The source said: ‘Kourtney got lots of gifts from Bel Bambini.’

Another onlooker added: ‘Multiple women arrived bearing numerous gifts for Kourtney’s new baby. at one point, a Toyota van drove up to the property and numerous people rushed over to the car to help a blonde female carry a huge gift, in black-and-white wrapping paper and a big red bow, into the house.’

However, none of the guests left the party empty-handed.

The source said: ‘Kourtney and her family had gift bags for all the guests.’

The event was Kourtney’s second baby shower.

Last month, Scott’s family threw a party for the couple at Stonewalls Restaurant at The Woods at Cherry Creek in new York.

Grace Community Church hosts the fourth annual Community Baby Shower on may 19, a benefit to support hundreds of needy families in the region.

The free-of-charge shopping event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 1320 Auburn way S, Auburn.

Last year more than 680 moms, dads and kids lined up out the door and through the parking lot, patiently waiting for their turn to shop for clothes, diapers, toys, cribs, coats, car seats and strollers.

“We are going to serve more families than ever before,” said Shelly Suth, staff person at Grace Community Church and organizer of the event.

World Vision, an international relief organization, already has donated three pallets of diapers and a pallet of baby bedding – and has promised that more diapers are on the way.

Individuals and groups throughout the community have been donating new and gently used baby clothes, furniture, toys and books, in addition to clothing for children up through size 5T.

A local businessman donated his warehouse for storage and also will load his trucks and deliver the items the day before the event.

“The Community Baby Shower is not just about supplying clothing and furniture,” Suth said. “We also connect these moms, dads and kids to organizations that can help them thrive in today’s challenging economy.”

Booths will be set up, featuring the Auburn Food Bank, Auburn Youth Resources, Auburn Valley Y, South Sound Dream Center, Celebrate Recovery, English as a Second Language, ACAP and others.

Decorations lined the walls in the Sigma Delta Tau sorority house on Monday for “A Baby Shower” that the students in the public relations program at the University of Rhode Island hosted. Partnering with the Jonnycake Center allowed all donations, including baby clothes, blankets and toys, to help support local mothers in need.

The Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale is a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive assistance to individuals and families in need for food, clothing and basic household items. The organization is donation driven and all proceeds go directly to the less fortunate residents in southern Rhode Island.

Junior Jessica Corrado intended to create a fundraising event that steered away from traditional routes.  while studying public relations within the Harrington School of Communication and Media, launching a baby shower themed fundraiser seemed fitting with Mother’s Day quickly approaching.

“I liked that the Jonnycake Center supported local families,” Corrado said. “The baby shower was a good idea because it is out of the box.”

Other students in the public relations program helped plan the event by collecting donations for a raffle from various businesses in the area. Gift certificates from Rhode Island Book Company, Caliente, Burger Shack and the South County Cinema were all donated to be raffled off during the event.

Susan Gustaitis, executive director of the Jonnycake Center, hopes this fundraiser could be an annual event.

“The public relations students wanted to do something with the Jonnycake Center and I try to engage younger students with fun things to do,” Gustaitis said.

Gustaitis said doing something new with the Jonnycake Center would be beneficial during this special time with Mother’s Day around the corner. The students planned the event and promoted it through Facebook and the Jonnycake Center’s website.

Alongside public relations advisor Regina Bell, undergraduate students in the program are able to apply their newly acquired skills to a local cause. now having planned an actual fundraising event, the experience gained throughout the baby shower will help students with their future careers.

“Doing this event was good practice for the future,” Corrado said. “Any remarkable opportunity that comes my way, I want to take part in it.”

Light snacks, refreshments and a DJ were provided to all attendees. Raffle tickets were given out to anyone who donated to the Jonnycake Center. Students were collecting money contributions and necessary baby items that would directly help mothers in the southern Rhode Island community.

Throwing a baby shower for the mom-to-be is a snap with these fun games, gifts, recipes and ideas.

Throwing a baby shower for a special mother-to-be? Let us help with great games, gifts and food ideas from Country Woman magazine readers.

Throwing a Baby Shower: Guide to Games

1. now, That’s Cute! “Cute” has to be the most common word you hear at a baby shower—so why not have fun with it?  Give each arriving guest a diaper pin, a warning not to lose it if she wanted to win the prize, and a slip of paper with this verse, titled “Cute!”: place this pin upon your shirt (Don’t worry, it’s not going to hurt). and when you hear another say this special word here today — you get to take her pin away!  Tons of fun, especially when people who’ve collected several pins forget, say the word and lose them all! —Bonnie Hawkins, Burlington, Wisconsin

2. Beanie Bottle Fill a baby bottle with jelly beans, and ask guests to guess the total, giving a prize to the one who comes closest. —Mary Hamilton, Baltimore, Maryland.

3. Savings Start. Instruct guests, on the invitation, to bring a handful of quarters. When each arrives, give her a tag printed not with her name but instead, an item associated with babies, like rattle, diaper or blanket. Throughout the shower, everyone is to call each other by that name on her tag—or forfeit a quarter into a brand-new piggy bank for the baby. Guests who lose all their quarters and use the wrong name have to sing a lullaby, which gets recorded for the baby. Entertaining, and a good start for the baby’s savings account. —Wanda Anderson, Pikeville, Tennessee

4. Feeding Frenzy. this is great for a shower the expectant dad attends. the mom-to-be has to feed Dad a taste of each of seven jars of baby food, and he has to identify each. of course, you’ve previously removed the labels. Guests predict how many answers Dad will get right. —Carol Krueger, Chicago, Illinois

5. Letter Perfect. Make your gift a guessing game.  Fill a laundry basket with small, individually wrapped gifts, one for every letter of the alphabet. Make sure you label each wrapped gift with its initial.  “R” might be “rattle” and “Q” could be “Q-Tips.” (“L” is the laundry basket.) Guests make a list from A to Z guessing what each present will be. —Barbara Marchant, West Newfield, Maine

Throwing a Baby Shower: Guide to Gifts

1. Basket Full. For a special niece’s baby shower, I filled a large wicker basket with clothes, diapers and bedding, and wrapped the whole basket in a new crib sheet, the way you’d wrap an Easter basket. I secured it with large diaper pins and pinned rattles, pacifiers, baby shoes and hair bows all around the top. she was thrilled not just with the presents, but also with the pretty basket, which she used to hold clothes and diapers. —Barbara Stanley, Blairsville, Georgia

 2. Keepsake Card. It’s easy to recycle a shower invitation into a card to give the guest of honor. I cut out pictures from the invitation, glue them onto card stock and write a personal message, sometimes including a Bible verse. —Connie Tanner, Sturgeon, Missouri

3. Wrap Artist. the wrapping is always part of my gift for showers. A receiving blanket is the perfect “paper” for a baby shower gift, and a rattle makes a cute trim. —Calleen Dunfee, Jacobsburg, Ohio

4. Laundry Line. this is a good group gift. buy a number of baby outfits in different sizes, then affix to a clothesline with tiny clothespins. Arrange in a laundry basket so that when the mom-to-be took out the first outfit, she pulls out a line full of clothes. —Shari Haskins, Roulette, Pennsylvania.

5. Get creative. Fold washcloths into chicks or bunnies, or crochet baby booties to make sweet, practical gift-toppers. Or wrap a baby in love with a handknit baby blanket, an angelic crocheted afghan or an adorable ducky bath towel. Find even more ideas here.

Throwing a Baby Shower: Guide to Remote Showers

When the mother-to-be can’t travel back home to see friends and family, bring the party to her. Reader Lynda D. Koehler of Paupack, Pennsylvania, recalls asking guests to bring their presents, unwrapped, for everyone to exclaim over, then to wrap the presents at the party. Once the guests left, Lynda packaged up the presents, decorations, favors, disposable cameras and leftover plates, napkins and cups, then sent them to a friend who lived nearby. she invited mutual friends and the mother-to-be for a surprise shower.

Similarly, Janice Williams of Anniston, Alabama, held a “Backward Shower” for which guests brought unwrapped gifts and wrapping supplies. she took video of each guest holding her wrapped present and saying a few words to the expectant mom. When the guest of honor watched the video, just before opening the gifts, she saw her mom cut the cake and heard all her friends’ warm wishes.

According to E! Online, the shower took place at Kourtney’s mother and step-father’s home in Hidden Hills, California. in addition to playing some games that were of course baby-themed, the food that was served came in the form of sushi, sandwiches and various deserts.

While West and Odom were there, Disick wasn’t. He was in Altantic City, New Jersey appearing at an event. Bruce Jenner wasn’t at the event either.

Still, 100 or so guests attended the shower, which was pink-themed for Kourtney and Scott’s first baby girl.
