Yep. After two games, the 7-foot Laker Gasol has 13 assists, while Denver’s starting point guard Lawson has nine.

“I’m just trying to find my open teammates, trying to see what’s going on and give easy looks to (low-post partner Andrew) Bynum most of the time,” Gasol said. “And then Kobe (Bryant) is such a good cutter and holds his position so well in the paint, so he’s a definer for me. I’m just trying to make our offense work, get a little movement and get guys easy shots.”

In Tuesday’s Game 2, which put L.a. up 2-0, the Lakers tallied 20 assists – seven of those came from Gasol (five) and Bynum (two). for all the talk this series about Bynum – and my goodness, he can change the complexion a game so many ways – Gasol has made a hefty impact too, notably with the pass.

In Game 1, Gasol tallied eight assists, giving him the 13 on the series. in the regular season, he averaged 3.7 assists per game, but in these two games, he has averaged 6.5.

The Nuggets have often double-teamed the low-post, but because the Lakers are so long and court-savvy, they’ve often been able to zip off a pass before being completely overwhelmed by the defenders.

“It’s tough when you play against us because there are legitimately three guys on the post that you have to double-team,” Bryant said. “For Andrew, he’s also continuing to get better at making great reads, which is going to help us tremendously as he gets better at it.”

Game 3 is Friday at Pepsi Center, followed by Game 4 on Sunday.

Thank God it was only seven … I thought the league would really go overboard, but be that as it may, Metta will think before acting.  Anger is something … it is hard to control and at least he is trying to work on it, and when your pocket is hit, you tend to pay more attention.  so don’t preach the Lakers funeral because one player is missing.  Everybody is professional and should be able to step up and do their jobs.  I hope things get better for Metta, I hope Kobe has a good scoring night for this last game, because he stayed ahead after missing seven games, so I am hopeful that he can do what it takes to secure it again.  I know he says it isn’t important, but he scored his butt off to be ahead, and .11 points behind Durant is not a lot, so hopefully he has a good night in Sacramento.  Teams go through ups and downs because you have different personalities.  I believe in Metta because he is working on himself and at least acknowledging the fact that he needed to make a change.  Some of us stay in denial, but all in all, I believe in the Lakers and I am praying and pulling for them.

I have been resisting this story for a couple of weeks even though I get at least one email and several tweets daily.  I am going to put it out there, but I am telling you this is just hearsay and rumors.

Could it be true?

Possibly, but if it is, the soft label that I have defended Gasol of having, I might have to rethink.

The story is not an unusual one for a man to have.  Short version is that Gasol’s girlfriend broke up with him, he is down in the dumps and it is effecting his play.

Furthermore it is alleged one of the reasons she dumped him was because she became friends with one of his teammates’ wives and she advised her to kick Pau to the curb.  as you can imagine that would put a strain on the teammate and Gasol’s relationship which in turn could spill over on the court.

One of the reasons I don’t believe this is because Gasol has played lackluster all year, you can’t blame that on his lady.  Also athletes and men all over the world have problems with their ladies on a daily basis and rarely does it affect them in activities they like to do.

If anything they do those activities better and more often because it takes their mind off what is going on.  we all have had our heartbroken, but you have to man up and do your job.

But now everyone can stop tweeting, emailing and sending me Facebook messages about this.
