The new season of Real Housewives of Orange Country premieres Tuesday night and Vicki Gunvalson and her new beau will be part of the storyline this season.

Although Brooks Ayers has been accused of being a deadbeat dad, Vicki has supported him all along — at one point telling RumorFix, “he fell on hard times.”

Now, Vicki, who is almost 50, is glowing about their relationship. “I’m having a great time,” she tells KTLA’s Morning News. “He’s a Southern Gentleman from Mississippi.”

She really enjoys when he says “yes ma’am” and opens the doors for her. and she thinks the audience will enjoy watching them together, because “He’s from the poorest state in the country and I’m from the richest county — we’re blending it together and it’s interesting.”

If you got lost throughout that bit of rambling, it's probably a feeling similar to what you'll feel these days while keeping up with the kids on the Twitter machine, and the Facebook, and all that social media jazz. It can really be a bit overwhelming at times, as the "he said-she said" game continues to reach new levels in the age of digital media.

The recent controversy surrounding Quinn's comments about Tebow in a GQ article is the latest example that social media is changing the sports landscape as we know it. It isn't a completely new concept, but tweets have quickly become THE go-to platform for athletes, altering the state of journalism incredibly.

Many athletes use Twitter to interact with fans, others use it to break personal news, and still others use it as a direct avenue to "clarify" what they meant or said when backlash strikes. the latter is exactly how Quinn used the social media website on Tuesday, as he backtracked on the comments he reportedly made to GQ recently about Tebow's run with the Broncos this season.

"If you look at it as a whole, there's a lot of things that just don't seem very humble to me," Quinn told GQ. "when I get that opportunity [to play,] I'll continue to lead not necessarily by trying to get in front of the camera and praying but by praying with my teammates, you know?"

Quinn also reportedly told GQ that he thought the fans had a lot to do with Tebow, who leapfrogged Quinn on the depth chart, getting a chance to start for the Broncos.

Understandably (given Tebow's popularity), Quinn's comments made headlines nationwide, leading Tebow-haters to rejoice, supporters to shake their fists at the heavens and others to say, "Who the hell is Brady Quinn?"

Nevertheless, it was obvious from the onset that Quinn was going to have to respond to the article at some point, which he eventually elected to do via (of course) Twitter.

Quinn called Tebow "a great teammate," said that he was "happy for him and what he accomplished," and stressed that the comments in the GQ article were "NO WAY" reflective of his opinion of Tebow and the Broncos.

Now, let it be known, I'm not saying Quinn's Twitter apology/clarification/"oh crap" moment wasn't genuine and very much real. It probably was, although no one truly knows but Quinn himself.

But the whole situation speaks volumes about the impact of Twitter. Undoubtedly, Quinn's Twitter account was monitored more than ever after the GQ article came out, and not because he somehow made the leap from a terrible quarterback to a mediocre signal caller overnight (even Twitter has its limitations).

Instead, it was because of the anticipation of how Quinn might respond to his apparent screw up. And that type of wait-and-see reaction has become the norm for many sports fans.

You read/hear something. you react. And then you head to Twitter to wait for the athlete in question's reaction.

On Tuesday, sure enough, Quinn tweeted, and he tweeted more than your run-of-the-mill 140-character tweet. He tweeted as much as his heart desired until his message was hammered into the rest of Internet-using civilization.

There's nothing wrong with Quinn taking to Twitter, there's nothing wrong with athletes using Twitter in general, and there's nothing wrong with us hanging on athletes' every word on Twitter.

But Quinn's five tweets — and many tweets from athletes — can be summed up in one word: regret.

That word is essentially at the heart of all things Twitter these days, as it pertains to sports figures. We've seen athletes tweet things that they regret soon after, and we've seen athletes express regret via Twitter.

It's truly amazing how traditional journalism has taken a backseat. In many cases, its tweets surrounding events (or stories) that end up making more headlines than the actual event itself.

This isn't to say there's some evil that exists out in the Twitterverse, but it certainly muddies the water when it comes to who and what to believe.

Was Quinn's clarification on Tuesday legitimate, or was he simply playing the GQ interview back in his head and thinking to himself, "I probably shouldn't have said that?" We'll never know, but the possibility for either has led many — including myself — to take more and more things with a grain of salt.

Researchers have found that parents of young children who anger easily and over-react are more likely to have toddlers who act out and become upset easily.

The research is an important step in understanding the complex link between genetics and home environment. in the study, researchers from Oregon State University, Oregon Social Learning Center, and other institutions collected data in 10 states from 361 families linked through adoption – and obtained genetic data from birth parents as well as the children.

They followed the children at nine, 18 and 27 months of age, and found that adoptive parents who had a tendency to over-react, for example, were quick to anger when children tested age-appropriate limits or made mistakes. These over-reactive parents had a significant effect on their children, who exhibited “negative emotionality,” or acting out and having more temper tantrums than normal for their age.

Genetics also played a role, particularly in the case of children who were at genetic risk of negative emotionality from their birth mothers, but were raised in a low-stress or less-reactive environment.

The study was published in the latest edition of the journal Development and Psychopathology.

“This is an age where children are prone to test limits and boundaries,” said lead author Shannon Lipscomb, an assistant professor of human development and family sciences at OSU-Cascades. “However, research consistently shows that children with elevated levels of negative emotionality during these early years have more difficulties with emotion regulation and tend to exhibit more problem behavior when they are of school age.”

Researchers also found that children who exhibited the most increases in negative emotionality as they developed from infants to toddlers (from nine to 27 months of age) also had the highest levels of problem behaviors at age two, suggesting that negative emotions can have their own development process that has implications for children’s later behaviors.

“This really sets our study apart,” Lipscomb said. “Researchers have looked at this aspect of emotionality as something fairly stable, but we have been able to show that although most kids test limits and increase in negative emotionality as they approach toddler age, the amount they increase can affect how many problem behaviors they exhibit as 2-year-olds.”

Lipscomb said the take-away message for parents of young children and infants is that the way they adapt to toddlerhood – a challenging time marked by a child’s increasing mobility and independence – can have an impact on how their child will develop.

“Parents’ ability to regulate themselves and to remain firm, confident and not over-react is a key way they can help their children to modify their behavior,” she said. “You set the example as a parent in your own emotions and reactions.”

The opening day of the NFL Scouting Combine is usually more looked forward to just so that we can say that the combine has begun more than for the players who participate in it. there should be plenty of intrigue for the first day group of players for Detroit Lions fans, though.

Day one of the combine will feature the first three groups of players arriving at Indianapolis, but no actual drills will be done until day four as the first gang of players go through orientations, medical exams, interviews and the like for the first few days. the first three groups will consist of the special teams players, offensive lineman and tight ends.

There’s not too many huge names in the group, as should probably be expected with those positions. Lions fans might want to keep their eye on the group of lineman, as there’s names like Peter Konz and Glenn Cordy who have been repeatedly mock drafted to Detroit over and over again in recent weeks. Even if not one of those two, the idea of OL for the Lions in the first round has been trucking and will probably continue to so it’ll be interesting to see who in the group can work their way up into late first round discussion, where the Lions will be selecting at 23rd overall.

Day two of the combine will provide the intriguing offensive skill players when the quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers arrive. Day three will provide most of the defensive players, and the defensive backs will show on day four.

when reading up on last week’s top style stories, separating journalistic neophytes from industry veterans can be a laborious task – luckily, I caught up with one of the latter to give me the full scoop (and then some). you know her from MTV back in the day, and doing red-carpet duty for Access Hollywood, but recently, SuChin Pak has been scouring the city as DailyCandy.com’s latest correspondent. in between presentations and parties, I caught up with Pak to chat luxe layers, Lin-sanity and the power of a power belt.

Julie Bensman: new York Fashion Week is over! what were some personal highlights?

SuChin Pak: Catching up with friends that don't live in NYC is always the best. I've been a huge fan of LA-based stylist Chriselle for a while now and we got to catch up on shoes, boys, and everything in between over the best bowl of soba noodles at Cocoron in the LES. that and, of course, being wildly distracted with Jeremy Lin!

JB: what are the three biggest trends you're spotting for Fall 2012?

SP: Luxury. and by that I mean the mixing of different textures, knits, silk, metallic, and lace, layered and chopped up together: Rebecca Minkoff, Derek Lam, J.Crew, and Rodarte all had huge elements of this trend. by far, though, seeing the Prabal Gurung collection made me salivate. from heaven to hell, he captures light and dark in one dramatic swoop.

JB: Which labels would we find in your closet?

SP: More United Bamboo than anything. Opening Ceremony, Zara, J. Crew, YSL in heavy rotation. I have a lot of vintage costume jewelry from the best kept secret, Estate Jewels by George and Raf. It's amazing what one small broach can do to a simple J. Crew cardigan.

JB: What's the best piece of style advice you've ever received?

SP: If you have a power belt and heels on, everything else is just in-between stuff. I'm a big believer in mixing highs and lows.

JB: Which celebrities nail it every time on the red carpet?

SP: Charlize Theron never fails; Nicole Richie and Joel Madden always make it their own; and Gwen Stefani often gives me goose pimples.

JB: Fashion aside, what projects are you currently working on?

SP:  I'm doing a lot of trend and style pieces for E! and Access Hollywood for DailyCandy and I'm continuing to write, develop, and pitch for DailyCandy every day. We're starting the new season for Hester Street Fair, my outdoor shop and eat market in the lower East side. Doors open officially April 28!

JB: Fashion and food, the best of both worlds! Where are some of your favorite NYC spots?

SP: I rarely leave the 10-block radius of the LES; Cocoron for soba noodles; Sons of Essex for a good night out that doesn't involve a lot of fuss; and An Choi for Pho cravings… Of course, in the warmer weather, there’s nothing like digging into a Luke's Lobster Roll at Hester Street Fair. as far as shopping goes, I love the vintage at new World Order, seeing the delightful surprises at top Hat, and Opening Ceremony to make sure you're in touch with what's what!

JB: What's the last thing you Googled?

Fashion and food, felines and food…it all sounds good to me.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Elizabeth Smart, the young woman who was kidnapped from her Utah home at the age of 14 and held captive for nine months, married her Scottish fiance in Hawaii over the weekend.

Smart and her new husband Matthew Gilmour moved their wedding date up by several months after news of her engagement drew widespread media attention.

Family spokesman Chris Thomas said Smart decided just a week ago to move the wedding date. On Saturday, February 19, Smart and Gilmour married in a small ceremony at a Mormon template on Oahu’s North Shore. The couple met in Paris during a Mormon mission trip.

Ed Smart, Elizabeth’s father, told The Salt Lake Tribune he’s “thrilled” his daughter is married.

Smart, 24, is in her last year at Brigham Young University. following her honeymoon, Smart will return to class and continue her work with the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, which she formed in an effort to help prevent children from abuse.

“her wedding further demonstrates it is possible to rise above challenging circumstances to lead a happy and productive life,” Thomas said.

It signalled a return to the real – songs, singers, instruments – a profoundly puzzling concept given these are the fundamentals of music.

Even Dave Grohl, whose band Foo Fighters took four awards, said the industry had acknowledged the "human element" of making music again.

Grohl added: "Singing into a microphone and learning to play an instrument and learning your craft is the most important thing for people to do.

"It’s not about being perfect. It’s not about sounding correct."

British singer-songwriter Jessie J was at the Grammys last week to experience the industry’s change of heart.

She says excitedly: "The singer is back! I was fed up, at one point, of all the Auto Tune being used in songs, and the song being carried by the beat, and not the other way around."

Of course, the Grammys piled most honours on Jessie J’s former classmate, Adele. they studied at the BRIT School, a performing arts hot spot, alongside Leona Lewis and Katy B.

She says the success of the latest British invasion, which also includes Lily Allen and the late Amy Winehouse, is based on being real.

She says: "The English are very much a culture that can sniff a fake easily.

"When you’re in a country that is literally smaller than Texas, you have to be yourself."

Jessie J, 23, was born Jessica Ellen Cornish.

Before Cornish’s solo success, she wrote songs for Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and the hit Party in the USA for Miley Cyrus.

But in 2007, before the breakthroughs, Cornish’s pop dream was sidelined by a health nightmare – she had a minor stroke and lost feeling on her right side.

"I always have to keep an eye on my health," she says. "but it is one of those things where you have to adjust to lifestyle and make sure I’m 100 per cent for every show.

"just because you’re young and healthy doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to be here everyday.

She says: "once I had my stroke, I knew: ‘I have no time to waste. I need to live my dream and live it now’."

Five years on, Cornish is well on the path she imagined.

Her hits include do it like a Dude, Price Tag, Nobody’s Perfect and Domino.

She regularly makes best-dressed – and worst-dressed – lists, but overcomes most complaints about image and haircuts with platinum pop hooks, a monster voice and manic persona, which one US critic said was "equal parts Katy Perry, Kristin Chenoweth, and Alice Cooper".

Jessie J smiles at the comparisons.

"I was once named disco ball of the night," she laughs. "but I want it to be about my music, I want it to be about my voice, not my haircut, not my style."

The title track of her latest album, who you are, is about staying true.

She says: "you have to be true to yourself in this industry and not let anyone change you.

"I don’t want to be here for just the parties and success. for me, it’s also about being an inspiration and a role model."

But Cornish has worked hard for her place in pop. at 18, she wrote and recorded an album, but the record company went bust before its release.

From there, she turned to writing songs for established pop stars.

Meanwhile, Cornish honed her live skills by taking any support slot on offer. she played 250 shows on seven tours.

"at the time, it felt like my world was falling apart. you never know what the future holds," she says.

"but my mum always says: ‘If a door slams in your face, there’s another bigger, beautiful door around the corner ready for you to open it’. I had to believe that.

"When I look back on it now, I know it helped me write the songs I do, and made me the person I am today.

"Artists have to go through struggle to survive in this industry."

That was then.

Earlier this month, Jessie J began work on her next album.

She reveals: "I’m braver, I want to have a little more pain on the next album.

"I’m wanting to talk about things that I maybe never wanted to talk about before – I maybe pushed them away.

"but I think it’s good to embrace the pain or a sad moment in your life.

"it doesn’t always have to end in a happy chorus or a happy bridge. you have to be strong enough to know that it gets better."

That said, who you are, lyrically, is packed with revelations.

"I’m not perfect," Jessie J said on the eve of her album release. "I tell lies, I’ve messed up, and I’ve treated people badly."

She is also open about being bisexual.

"I don’t put a label on my music, and I don’t put a label on my sexuality," she says.

"if you like girls, that’s cool, if you like boys, that’s cool, too.

"I think we’re in a society that’s very accepting."

Indeed, Jessie J will get a festival-size welcome when she performs at FMF2012 in March.

She lends a credible pop edge to a largely electronic line up that includes new Order, Aphex Twin and Friendly Fires.

She will also be upright after a nagging foot injury. last June, Jessie J ruptured tendons in her foot and underwent surgery. she subsequently performed with a cast on her leg and perched on a throne.

The new live show, she says, has no throne, no cast and no gimmicks.

She adds: "People expect you to have acrobats and fireworks and I’m like: ‘Nooo!’

"a great performance is what you want when you buy a ticket to see someone live. you want to see them sing live and sing well."
