Celebrities Who Are Or Have Been Celibate

There are many religious, moral or personal reasons why a person would choose to abstain from sex for a certain period. Whether that period lasts for a night, a year, until marriage, a lifetime or somewhere in between depends upon the person.

Think like a Man actress Meagan good is only the latest in a string of celebrities who have claimed they were celibate at one time or another.

Are these celebrities on to something? Have they discovered that even in a nation (and industry) notoriously obsessed with sex, that the best Kama Sutra position may be “legs closed”? Did they realize that the most intimate relationship of all can be had without this most intimate act? is celibate the new sex?

I’m not certain, but one thing is for sure: There are definitely some surprises on this list!

KATV Channel 7 – The Spirit of Arkansas: Viola Davis addresses struggling alma mater

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) – Viola Davis addressed graduating seniors Thursday at the high school in the struggling Rhode Island city where she grew up, urging them to treasure “hard times and joyous moments” and telling them that the “privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.”

The Oscar-nominated actress from the film “The Help” spoke to Central Falls High School's class of 2012, student actors and members of student government and other alumni nearly 30 years after receiving her own diploma there. she was also inducted into the school's Alumni Hall of Fame.

A member of the class of 1983, Davis has continued to support the 1.3-square-mile city of 19,000 just north of Providence.

Central Falls has found itself the subject of national headlines over its floundering finances – a state receiver filed for bankruptcy on its behalf last year – and for the mass firing in 2010 of all the high school's teachers. They were later rehired.

“Central Falls makes up in heart what it lacks in size,” Davis told students on a stage where she once acted. “Make your mark – whatever it is – you have it in you.”

Davis was a favorite for best actress in this year's Academy Awards for her performance as a black maid in “The help,” but she lost out to Meryl Streep, who won for “The Iron Lady.”

Streep later made $10,000 donations in Davis' name to a charter school Davis has supported and to the Upward Bound scholarship fund that the actress established with her sister.

Davis donated $1,000 each last year to the Central Falls library – which had temporarily closed because of finances – and the charter. In accepting a Screen Actors Guild award in January she told students there to “dream big and dream fierce.”

The high school principal, Joshua Laplante, called Davis a treasured graduate and said she has overcome adversity but remembers where she came from with a “genuine sense of pride.”

Davis was born on her grandmother's farm in South Carolina in 1965, the second youngest of six children of a factory worker and homemaker mother and a horse trainer father. The family moved to Central Falls when she was a few months old.

Davis recounted a time in third grade when a classmate kept calling her “the N-word,” prompting her to try to best him in some way. He was known as the fastest boy in Central Falls, so she challenged him to a race.

She worried as recess approached – her shoes were a size and a half too small and her socks had holes – and she wondered how she'd be able to run fast.

“I did what any self-respecting girl would have done: I took my shoes off,” she said.

The race was a tie. but she said Thursday she was telling the story as a kind of lesson to students.

“You gotta be in the race, no matter what,” she said. “Win or lose.

“I know the road ahead of you,” she added. “I know all the obstacles that are placed in your path, living in Central Falls. That's nothing compared to what you're going to face in life.”

Davis graduated in 1988 from Rhode Island College, where she studied theater.

“It's really an honor to have her here,” said Julissa Flores, a 15-year-old member of the high school's student government. “She's a role model to us, to go further and actually succeed in life.”

Jennie Garth – Jennie Garth’s Country Life Helping Heal Heartache

Actress Jennie Garth has credited her new life on a farm with helping her deal with her split from husband Peter Facinelli.

The couple announced it was divorcing in March (12) after 11 years of marriage.

The break-up has hit Garth hard, and she admits she has been extremely stressed and anxious since the marriage broke down.

but the star insists focusing on her menagerie of farm animals while filming her new reality series, A little Bit Country, has helped to ease her heartache.

she tells People, “Having all these animals fills a void for me because I’m kind of going through a rough time right now. The animals give you unconditional love, and that feels good.

“I think that my animals give me a sense of like relief, like they make me feel like none of that other bulls**t matters. when you look into their eyes, and they look back at you, and they don’t want anything, they just want love. Whether I’m successful or not successful, whether I’m fat or thin, if I’m nice or if I’m not nice, they still love me.

“(Peter)’s doing his thing and I’m doing mine. I chose to come up here and be with the quieter lifestyle, and that’s why I’m here. Getting separated has definitely been difficult, but being out here in the country has sort of made things a little easier.”

Vanessa Williams reflects on motherhood, struggle and stardom

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Vanessa Williams and her mother, Helen, have a new book out for Mother’s Day
  • It details their complex relationship and how they survived scandal and success
  • While they’re very different people, Vanessa takes some of her parenting traits from Helen

(CNN) — on the cover of their new book, “You Have no idea: a Famous Daughter, Her No-Nonsense Mother, and how They Survived Pageants, Hollywood, love, Loss (And each Other),” singer/actress Vanessa Williams and her mother, Helen, radiate an empowered sophistication.

Their pose eschews the cliché embrace. Instead they strike a stance of support — mother and daughter side by side, arms hooked. The book intertwines their two stories, how each has struggled on her own and how the complicated relationship that binds them still supplies a safety net.

From public scandal — she stepped down as the first black Miss America after nude photos of her appeared in Penthouse magazine — to Broadway triumph, Williams has been on the celebrity radar for decades. Through it all, her mother has been a touchstone of humor and support in good times and bad.

CNN sat down with both women to discuss their book, their parenting revelations and their memories from a lifetime in the spotlight. The following is an edited transcript of the conversation.

Vanessa Williams, Triumph Over Scandal

CNN: how has your relationship evolved over time?

Helen: Well, as Vanessa has grown into womanhood and become a mother, it’s a more adult-to-adult relationship now, rather than the domineering mom, as they tend to think I was, to a more relaxed relationship but understanding that I’m still a mother in the relationship.

Vanessa: as a mother now of four children, I can see her much more wholly as a woman, a mother, someone who has had a past and someone whose past has influenced her choices as well as mine. The wiser you get, the more experience you have, and the more you see people for who they are as human beings, as opposed to figures you have to fight against. I think I am much more conscious of back story, temperament and even going through perimenopause and how it can affect your mood, attitude and relations and how you deal with people. There are a lot of things that you don’t realize that your parents are going through when you’re a kid.

CNN: how did you ‘survive’ all of that together?

Helen: (Her father and I) were the support that we felt she needed to survive some of the things that she had to deal with that were not always the positive things. and we were also the supporters when something really exciting happened, like when she had her first Broadway show.

Vanessa: and it’s never-ending, especially in this business. You’re always going to have people that are naysayers, that don’t believe in your talent, that don’t believe that you have any kind of longevity. I am happy to be able to look back — because the book is called “You Have no idea,” and every time there has been a major triumph in my career, nobody ever expected it. on Broadway: “I didn’t know she could sing and dance.” a no. 1 hit on the radio: “I had no idea that she could be a recording artist.” With “Ugly Betty” and three Emmy nominations: “I had no idea she was funny.” it is always redefining who you are and raging against the machine.

CNN: What do you think mothers and daughters will take away from this book?

Vanessa: I hope that they see that it’s not all peaches and cream. even when we shot the cover — they had shown me the cover of Ellen Degeneres’ book with her mom, and it was warm, loving and toasty, and they are embracing each other. and I said, “That’s not us!” in the back of the book, you see me crowning her, because she is the real queen in our family. and so there is a sense of humor, which is part of our dynamic, and that’s how we get through lots of things in our life.

Helen: What I hope they take away is it’s an honest story of two experiences, two different people with two different personalities, and how we were able to respect our roles as a mother and daughter and tell the story that worked for us with support, love, caring and being there for your child.

CNN: What did you want for Vanessa?

Helen: We wanted her to be whatever she chose to be as her life goal. To support her, doing whatever we could to make it happen. To be a happy, successful person.

Vanessa Williams describes perfect man Vanessa Williams: I was molested ‘Desperate Housewives’ the movie?

Vanessa: I also think, had I not been talented in the arts and I still wanted to be in it, they would have said “Why don’t you do something else?” Luckily they saw my talent and my interest in it and they gave me all the gifts to allow me to take dance class, piano and French horn and be in theater and major in musical theater in college, rather than saying, “Why don’t you do something normal?” or “Get a real job.” I never heard that.

CNN: As a mother now, do you hear yourself saying things that sound like your mother?

Vanessa: when I heard it loud and clear was when I was on location shooting a show called “Who Do You think You Are.” I was on the phone with my 11-year-old daughter. she started with violin, played piano and percussion, then she wanted to switch to the trumpet, and then wanted to drop it altogether. I remember saying, “We don’t drop our instruments in this family. Everyone takes an instrument until they graduate, and that’s what we do as a family, so you’ve got to figure out if it’s violin or trumpet or something else. and I don’t ever want to hear the music teacher telling me you’re not showing up again.” and that’s when I knew, I am the same parent, I have heard this before.

CNN: How would each of you describe that relationship between mother and daughter?

Vanessa: I am lucky to have three daughters who are completely different. I look at my daughters and I have different relationships with all three and there are parts of each personality that are very special. I rely on them for their particular qualities, but I feel happy that I have three completely different opportunities to make my mommy-daughter relationship different.

Helen: and mine was such trial and error before Vanessa was born. I had no skills in diaper changing or feeding or any of the things that you’re required to do as a mother. I enjoyed having a girl — the mother-daughter shopping, dressing up and doing those things together. There’ll be difficult times, especially when girls start growing up, and it’s not easy, but you get through it. You just have to be patient and give them their space and recognize who they are.

CNN: Is there a moment between you two that stands out as unforgettable?

Helen: For me, it was when Vanessa had performed “Kiss of the Spider Woman” on Broadway, because we knew that was one of the things that she wanted to do her entire life. Her high school picture said “I’ll see you on Broadway.” it was something that she’d worked very hard toward. she had some people that did not want her to be on Broadway, and she persisted.

Vanessa: I think one of my mother-daughter memories was at the first state dinner that I attended, when President Reagan invited me to the White House that October as Miss America, and my mother said, “Whatever you do, get the president to sign the menu!” I ended up sitting at his table and trying to think, how am I going to get through this dinner with the president and get him to sign my menu? I listened to him talk about his life in Hollywood and towards the end, I said “Can you please sign this menu for my mother? she will kill me otherwise.” and he very politely did it, and she still has it. The things that you do for your mother!

Helen: But they’re important things.

Big Bang’s Daesung on his special skin care method

Previously, we reported that Big Bang‘s Daesung astonished actress Go Hyun Jung on SBS‘s ‘Go Show‘ by showing his knowledge of skin care. the idol even revealed that he has come up with an ultra-effective skin care method called “Go-Dae face wash method”, which is his own version of Go Hyun Jung’s face-washing regimen.

We finally bring you more info on this spectacular treatment, researched by Daesung himself! On the April 20th broadcast of ‘Go Show’, Daesung revealed,

“if it wasn’t for Go Hyun Jung sunbae, I wouldn’t have been on camera [due to bad skin]… I always have to believe my hands are very dirty. People don’t think their own hands are dirty, [but they should keep in mind that they are]. I only look like I’m touching my face on camera, but I’m really not. even when I take a shower, I wash my hands for 1-2 minutes. Then I proceed to rinse my face in a counterclockwise direction with my hands. When cleansing, it’s not always the best idea to cleans your face 2-3 times since it can irritate your skin. Instead, cleansing your face thoroughly once would be a more beneficial method. in addition, it’s a bad idea to spray your face with water directly while taking a shower, rather you should clean your face with soft flowing water that comes down from the top of your head. the point is to act like you’re filming a shower scene in a movie.”

After listening to Daesung’s extremely thorough explanation, Go Hyun Jung praised his wonderful technique and remarked, “Perfection.”

Do you see Daesung in a new light now? What do you think the response was from the other Big Bang members who guested on the same episode?

Lea Michele is throwing a 70th birthday party for Barbra Streisand.

The ‘Glee’ star is a huge fan of the singer and actress and plans to pull out all the stops with a huge party as her idol reaches the landmark age on April 24.

A source told Hollywoodlife.com: ‘Lea is obsessed with Barbra Streisand.

‘She has always celebrated Barbra’s birthday, but this year is extra special because Barbra turns 70.’

Lea, 26, will be joined at the party this weekend by her ‘Glee’ co-star and boyfriend, Cory Monteith, and a host of their pals.

The source added: ‘Basically, Lea and Cory and her friends will watch their favorite Barbra Streisand movies and Lea will of course sing her songs.’

Lea’s obsession with Barbra doesn’t end with her parties, as she also dreams of starring in a remake of one of her films, or having her appear on ‘Glee’.

The friend said: ‘One of Lea’s biggest dreams is to star in a remake of ‘Funny Girl’, which was Barbra’s first movie role.

‘In fact, one of Lea’s other biggest dreams is to have Barbra actually be on ‘Glee’ where the two could perform the song ‘Evergreen’ together.’

Lea met her idol once, in 2010, and subsequently broke down in tears because she was so shocked.

She recalled: ‘Someone tapped me on the shoulder and it was Barbra! she said, ‘Thank you so much for introducing me to your generation.’ I was like, ‘Thank you so much. You’ve changed my life. I love you.’

‘She walked away and I collapsed, crying like a crazy person.’

Heather Morris of ‘Glee’: Newest victim of nude photo leak?

Heather Morris, fully clothed. (Alberto E. Rodriguez – Getty Images) Yet another actress has become the alleged star in an online leak of nude photos.

Heather Morris — otherwise known as Brittany S. Pierce on “Glee” — could be seen posing in her birthday suit in pictures that hit the Web Sunday.

Some of the images show a nude woman in a provocative pose and are decidedly NSFW. Others reveal a blonde in outfits less risque than the bikini Morris wore during the “Slave 4 U” number on “Glee.”

The actress and her reps have not responded to the alleged leak.

After a lull in nude celebrity cellphone photos that followed last fall’s indictment in the Operation Hackerazzi case — a widespread hacking endeavor that led to the publication of racy Scarlett Johansson and Mila Kunis pics — naked photos of the famous are starting to surface again.

last week, photos allegedly depicting both Olivia Munn and “mad Men’s” Christina Hendricks in various states of undress appeared online. Hendricks, through her rep, admitted her phone was hacked, but said the nude photos were not of her. Munn, meanwhile, responded to the incident via a South by Southwest panel for her upcoming movie, “The Babymakers.” although she was not there in person, she asked the film’s director, Jay Chandrasekhar, to read a statement to the audience. it said in part, “oh, and one last thing — some of those pictures weren’t even me.” The joke’s punch line, like so much of what this blog post refers to, cannot be printed here.
