Now, when your children go on a play date, whether they are four years old or fourteen years old, you are going to want to make sure that they have polite manners, they know how to behave and what is expected of them so that they will be sure to be invited back for another play date. so here are a few simple tips to teach your children. First of all as soon as they go to the other person’s house, when they get there they need to take off their shoes, put their jacket away, and also go and say hello to the parent and the other siblings. next, you are going to want to encourage them to be agreeable. so, if the host says, for example, I had like you guys to play outside, well then go play outside. now, as the guest your child might be given a few options, and then certainly they can do what they would like to do.
The other really important thing is that they need to clean up after themselves. there is nothing more frustrating to a mother than having someone over for a play date and then the house is just so messy after they leave. so encourage them to clean up after themselves, take their dishes and their plates into the kitchen, clean up after their toys and all of those type of things. also, you want to remind them to follow the house rules. so for example, if a house rule is that they are not to watch TV that day, then you want to make sure that your child follow those rules and does not say, ‘hey, let us go watch TV’, and that ends up getting that child in trouble.
And then lastly, it is important that your child know that when they go to someone else’s home if they are offered something to eat that they have never had before, that you do not want them to be picky. you want them to try at least a bite of everything that they are served, and if they do not like it, then they can just leave it, but not to make a fuss. so these simple tips will certainly help your child to be a wonderful guest when they go on a play date.
